First sentence is a trip....this cat would have benefited from doing his own research
http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/07/19/news/mushrooms.php

Later in the day:
I haven't been able to stop thinking about this article all day. It shouldn't suprise me that my hometown rag, the Boston Globe, would allow an irresponsible reporter the freedom to begin a news article with an editorial comment..."warp their consciousness" - huh?
Thank you for letting me use the forum to release this snake from head....now I'm gonna go listen to (1973-11-11 Winterland) "Dark Star > Eyes > China Doll" --- something that rocks my soul as opposed to "warps my consciousness."

being from south boston, and living not far from there now, i can relate to what ashes said, although i dont get most of my news from the globe in the first place (nor do i want to).

i find that billboards on the side of buses and also small talk in cabs seem to be more reliable than that paper ;)

i'd rather read the NY times

peace,

fwiw -

i have had my own terrainium (in the past) and have been using these 'magic' things for years now, haven't looked back. my music career is incredible, i'm spiritually satisfied, and i've unlocked a whole other side of me i never knew i had.

i hope conservatives dont use this post/topic as a vehicle to go off on a stupid "self-image, drug use, the law, addiction" fueled rant, and spew other BS that plagues the media today.

let it go

or as bob weir said, let it grow :)

peace,
MS

Hey Neighbor!
-- nice, graceful nuance with the "Let it Grow" sign-off. I don't get my news from the Boston Globe -- that's why I chose that particular link. The article was syndicated thereby allowing for the light of ignorance, fear and darkness to spread propoganda more quickly throughout the land. (Just FYI: the NY Times owns the Boston Globe.) -- appreciate the comment about cab drivers. Drove a cab in the city for 7-years during the 1980's which allowed me the means and freedom to follow Hunter, Jerry and the "Grateful Dead." --- AshesRising

MazarianStudios -- on behalf of many cabbies: thank you! You will never know how much darkness you destroyed by tipping way above normal. It went so much deeper than the monetary level --- driving 16-hour shifts 4-5 consecutive days turned the world upside-down and inside-out. Saw the best and felt the worst of humanity - a style of "tripping" that's not for everybody. It never ceased to amaze me how one act of kindness instantly obliterated hours and sometimes days of wallowing in the belly of the beast. "Strangers stopped strangers/Just to" tip them well --- AshesRising (..and God Bless the Boston cops -- always "looked the other way" regardless of what I was doing.....)

i bartend at jazz clubs where i double as a jazz pianist - trust me -

people should be required to take 'tipping 101' in college to learn just WHY it should be taken seriously and not viewed as "eh, whatever - i'm le tired"

hahah..yes-in-deed!!
I've know this shite for years...

"routinely brings about positive psychological changes that can last for months"

as Hunter said " I don't advocate the use of drugs & alcohol..but they always seem to work for me"

Garcia said something along the lines of America not being ready yet to allow people to just go off on their own "trip", for an overabundance of irrational reasons mostly based on fear and greed.

Perhaps that time has finally arrived?

midnight sun: I remembered your post as I was reading Hunter's journal tonight. This was his entry from March 16 of this year. It may or may not apply to this topic:
3.16.06
Resolution:
We, the government of the United States of America, have decided to return the sovereignty of your minds and bodies to you, the citizens of this great republic. We know that there are many who will disagree with this decision, preferring that the government retain rights of ownership regarding the minds and persons of adult individuals. We are prepared to face the reality that those who disagree with the granting of various previously circumscribed personal freedoms will perhaps muster sufficient votes to defeat us at the ballot box. This does not concern us as much as does the usurpation of the most basic of personal rights by those elected to serve rather than to rule. We are convinced that the herd mentality enforced by the assumption unto ourselves of the preventative administration of those rights is not the plan of those who framed our constitution and, as sworn servants of that constitution, we resolve to cease the levying of criminal sanctions on the exercise of personal preferences in regards to victimless activities of all description. It is our devout hope and firm belief that there is no alternative to the non-obstruction of full mature adult choice in matters of personal discretion if the citizenry is to come to the full maturity appropriate to dealing with the very real problems that face us as a people. Thank you and God Bless America.
